Shirley Plantation - Williamsburg, VA

This is an original built in 1723. It has survived every conflict and war including the Civil War because they treated the Northern Soldiers that were wounded. McClennon gave them a letter of safety/protection which prevented the burning or distruction of this plantation home.

It has been in the same family for 11 generations and is still a working plantation. The family (11th generation) lives on the second floor today. The 12th generation is in waiting and it is fully expected that the son will takeover and continue the tradition.

The pineapple on the top of the home is 3.5 feet tall and is a sign of welcome.

This is the back of the house located on the James River.

While in the backyard ... turn and there is my friend Carolyn overlooking the river.

This tree was huge ... hard to tell from the picture.

They had grapes and we sat under them ...

I just love flowers!
